The first section of this working paper discusses the status quo of transportation in the Rustenburg Local Municipality, (the world’s largest platinum producing region and the fastest growing City in South Africa) followed by the envisioned transport system for the City of Rustenburg. This is done by an analysis of the transportation wheel metaphor within the context of RLM. This working paper is based on the publications such as the Integrated Development Planning (IDP), Integrated Transport Planning (ITP), Moving South Africa, Public Transport Strategy and Public Transport Action Plan all which envisage efficient and effective transport networks in South Africa to foster economic growth. The last section of the paper provides recommendations in terms of the way forward in achieving an integrated transport system for the city of Rustenburg.
