On March 16th - 18th 2021 the United Nations Commission for Africa (UNECA) in partnership with the International Road Federation (IRF), the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), the World Road Association (PIARC) and the Tanzania Roads Association (TARA) organised a National Workshop on Safer Road Infrastructure as part of the two-year pilot project Ten Step Project Tanzania. The primary objectives of the workshop were to bring together key stakeholders in the road sector with responsibility and interest for road safety and to inform them about the project; share and exchange experiences and best practices in road safety; review the current systems and capacity within the country to deliver safer road infrastructure at the national, provincial and local levels; and establish working groups to identify gaps/shortfalls and agree together on solutions for establishing and enhancing the national road safety system and fostering partnerships to ensure the effective implementation of the project.

Public and private road safety stakeholder institutions including road agencies/authorities, road financing authorities and institutions, city/municipal/district councils,  traffic police departments, national standards agency, road design consultants and contractors, institutions responsible for road safety education, training and awareness participated to this workshop and came up with resolutions and recommendations for establishing and enhancing the National Road System in Tanzania.
