Road infrastructure in Europe and Central Asia: Does network quality affect trade?

We examine the impact of road network quality on intra-regional trade in Europe and Central Asia. Computerized mapping techniques are used to compile a new database of minimum-distance routes connecting 138 cities in 27 countries. Inter-country road quality indices reflecting both average and minimum quality on each route are then calculated.
