The purpose of the research mandate initiated jointly by the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) and the Office for the Environment, Forests and Landscape (now the FOEN) from Switzerland is a study of the various significant parameters for low-noise urban road pavements, on both existing and new road sections. It is expected to provide enhanced knowledge of pavements which are simultaneously durable, economically acceptable and low-noise in urban use. The formulation of initial recommendations is intended to promote their use.
