It is possible to decarbonize the transport sector of the Philippines using bioethanol from sugarcane grown there. The country has started implementing a chemical called E20 (bioethanol blended with gasoline) which has shown to have very little effect on climate, energy, land, and water resources. Considerations are being made to change the country’s land-use policy so that decarbonization can continue even past E20.
