United Nations Road Safety Collaboration
In April 2004, the United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES58/289 on “Improving global road safety” invited WHO to act as the coordinator for road safety issues across the United Nations system. The World Health Assembly accepted this invitation in May 2004 and the WHO created the UN Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC) in October 2004. To date, there are 85 members coming from United Nations and associated specialized agencies, governments, foundations and academic institutes, road safety nongovernmental organizations and private companies.
The Collaboration is an informal consultative mechanism whose members are committed to road safety efforts, particularly to the implementation of the recommendations of the World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention. The goal of the Collaboration is to facilitate international cooperation and to strengthen global and regional coordination among UN agencies and other international partners to implement UN General Assembly Resolutions and the recommendations of the World Report.

Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020
On 11 May 2011, the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 was launched in more than 100 countries, with one goal: to prevent five million road traffic deaths globally by 2020.
The Global Plan
The UNRSC has developed a Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 with input from many partners through an extensive consultation process through meetings and online resources. The Plan provides an overall framework for activities which may take place in the context of the Decade organized through 5 Pillars (listed below). Indicators have been developed to measure progress in each of these areas.
Governments, international agencies, civil society organizations, the private sector and other stakeholders are invited to make use of the Plan as a guiding document for the events and activities they will support as part of the Decade. The Global Plan is a valuable resource for information and best practice solutions for achieving our common goal of reducing road traffic fatalities.
This section of gTKP hosts work which has been produced by two of the Project Groups (PGs) in which UNRSC is organised. The PGs have been organised around the five pillars of the Decade of Action Plan and this section covers work done under PG1 "Road Safety Management" and PG2 "Safer Roads and Mobility". For a question of completness, we have listed also the other PGs/Pillars (3-4-5), provided a small introduction for each one of them and links to WHO website and other relevant resources.
