Socio-economic aspects of road accidents in developing countries

 

This report reviews trends in road accidents and compares developing countries with industritised countries. Social aspects of road accidents are examined, based on published statistics and on interviews with road accident victims in hospitals in Bangladesh, Fiji, Ghana, Indonesia, Peru and Zimbabwe. Insurance records were analyzedin Swaziland. The costs of road accidents are discussed and recommendations are made regarding how best to estimate these costs in developing countries.
