IRU Guide to Sustainable Development

This Guide is the latest step in the International Road Transport Union’s initiative for sustainable development. It sets out practical measures that individual transport operators can use to incorporate sustainable development principles into their normal operations. The purpose is to learn from existing national initiatives and to encourage further national programmes. The existing programmes are synthesised into six modules from which road transport associations and operators can choose the tools that are best suited to their individual circumstances. The activities covered include improvement of road safety, implementation of environmental management systems and envionmental controlling, promotion of best industry practices and driver training programmes.
