Bridging the Gap – Initiative

The transport sector is the fastest growing sector in terms of CO2 emissions in developing countries. To encourage international action to slow down this growth several international organizations (GTZ, TRL, Veolia Transport, UITP) have decided to join forces to encourage the recognition that transport can and should play in mitigating GHG emissions. Together they hope to achieve that the new climate agreement to be reached at COP 15, in December 2009 in Copenhagen will be fully applicable to the transport sector and that as well firm understandings will be reached in Copenhagen on large increases in funding for low carbon, sustainable transport systems in developing countries.
