Women Were Put On The Back-End: COVID-19 mobility constraints and their lessons and implications for gender-equity in sub-Saharan Africa

This paper presents the detrimental impact that COVID-19 mobility options and restrictions have had on women in sub-Saharan Africa, specifically with regard to access to health care, education, livelihoods, personal safety, individual agency and interdependence, and the inequitable financial burden of unpaid work. The study is done through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals, and makes clear the correlation between COVID-19 measures and transport restrictions and the social exclusion of women of low-incomes in sub-Saharan Africa.
