Moving Towards Green Road Infrastructure: Case Studies and Lessons Learned

The publication “Moving Towards Green Road Infrastructure: Case Studies and Lessons Learned” is the result of the IRF Environment Committee’s long search for road projects that integrate sustainability in various stages, including planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation. The case studies are described analytically, and the respective lessons learned are stressed in each case. IRF’s stated intent is to encourage better, greener and more sustainable road systems world-wide. It considers not only the new road projects that are to be constructed (which are becoming more and more scarce in the developed countries), but also the existing roads and motorways, and the way they are operated and maintained. The IRF, through its Environment Committee, aims to promote and advocate environmentally sustainable road infrastructure, through discussion and exchange of knowledge and good practices among the members.
