3rd European Conference on Pavement and Asset Management (EPAM3)

07/07/2008 - 09/07/2008

Coimbra
Portugal

The Steering Committee and the Local Organising Committee cordially invites you to attend the 3rd European Conference on Pavement and Asset Management, to be held on July 7 - 9, 2008, at University of Coimbra, Portugal.

The first Conference was held at Budapest, Hungary, and the second one at Berlin, Germany. The host of the third Conference is the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, integrated in the University of Coimbra, which is one of the oldest universities in the world with its 700 years of history.

The increasing traffic volumes expected for the next decade and decades to come, leads to the need of performing sustainable maintenance and rehabilitation of transportation networks assets. This is the key challenge for the majority of european transportation administrations and transport infrastructure engineers and researchers.

Therefore, the main objective of this Conference is to exchange innovation for the maintenance and the rehabilitation of all network assets, as road pavements, bridges, and tunnels, having in mind the user' needs and expectations, and the integration of the required resources, promoting the truly transport infrastructure asset management. The technical program includes keynote lectures on two subjects of relevance for the Conference objectives and sessions on eight different themes covering the main concerns on asset management and pavement engineering.

1st Sprayed Sealing Conference

27/07/2008 - 29/07/2008

Adelaide

The theme 'cost effective high performance surfacings' encapsulates the advantages and versatility of sprayed seals. In countries like Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, sprayed seals are the most important component of the national network. In Europe they have been developed to provide enhanced surface properties on major and other routes, while elsewhere seals are used as maintenance treatments or for low volume roads. The conference will cover all aspects of seal design, practice and performance.

REAAA ‘Mino’ Roadshow

25/08/2008 - 27/08/2008

Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia

The Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia has almost 2000 members from about 35 countries. In some countries membership forms a local chapter such as in Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Malaysia. Under its strategic plan one of REAAA's objectives is to assist members professional development through technology transfer.

At the 2nd Heads of Road Authorities (HORA) Meeting, held in Cairns, Queensland, in May 2003, there was considerable support for REAAA to develop an active technology transfer program to update skills and keep abreast of changes and improvements in technology. This followed a successful 3 day seminar conducted in Bangkok in May 2001 which explored emerging issues and challenges for managers of the regions' road networks. Subsequently the New Zealand and Australian Chapter have identified training needs of countries in the Asia Pacific region and details of existing training providers, documenting the courses provided. This information has informed the development of the REAAA MINO ROADSHOW in memory of former President and long serving member of the Governing Council Dr Sadamu Mino. This is the first of what is hoped to be a series of annual events held on a regular basis addressing different subjects of high interest to road authorities.

This event will specifically address best practice road asset management, investment planning and road safety in Australasia and south east Asia, using examples from throughout the region.

The conference program includes technical paper sessions, panel discussions and workshops. The purpose of the Call for Papers is to solicit papers for the technical paper sessions. Workshops will be held on Wednesday, September 24. Panel discussions will take place throughout the conference. Panel discussions and workshops will feature invited speakers. They are outlined to illustrate the wide variety of topics that will be covered at TAC's conference. More information on panel discussions and workshops will be provided at a later date.

For the 2008 conference, TAC also plans to organize a limited number of poster sessions as a new program component allowing for greater interaction between authors and delegates.
